Off season, the Marco Island Racquet Center looked more like a construction zone than a center offering tennis, pickleball and racquetball. Much to the delight of players, the MIRC is now fully operational and boasts resurfaced courts ready for play. The newly renovated courts at the Marco Island Racquet Center are now busy with activity offering daily play, lessons, drills, and clinics.
On Saturday, January 12, twelve enthusiastic pickleball players competed in Dink Wars with Jodi. The players were divided into two teams, BABs aka Bad Ass Blondes and SHIGs aka Smokin’ Hot Island Girls. Coach Jodi led the players through a series of drills and competition during the two-hour event. The Island Girls proved that they were indeed smokin’ hot defeating the Bad Ass Blondes with a total combined score of 22-14.
“Today was a lot of fun with 12 players. In season, Dink Wars is so popular that it fills up and has a waitlist as soon as I put out the sign-up sheet. I created Dink Wars as a fun event designed to connect players, promote good sportsmanship, and improve the level of pickleball play. Since I created this program over a year ago, I am filled with joy as I watch these players challenge themselves, gain new skills, improve their consistency…all the while, having fun and beaming with smiles,” explains Coach Jodi Pree. “Pickleball makes us all feel like kids again. Who could ask for a better way to stay active?”
Dink Wars with Jodi is held every Saturday morning from 10:30-12:30 at the Marco Island Racquet Center. Registration is required. Sign-up sheets, flyers, and program descriptions are available at the MIRC Pro Shop located at 1275 San Marco Road or call 239-394-5454 (MIRC Pro Shop) or call/text 239-302-9705 (Coach Jodi Pree) to sign-up or for more information.
