The City of Punta Gorda is adding a committee for pickleball, city leaders announced at today’s council meeting.
The Pickleball Committee will be made up of two pickleball players and five citizens from each district. This decision comes as neighbors continue to complain about people constantly playing the sport at Gilchrist Park, causing them headaches with noise and parking issues.
“I think is a good cross-section and hopefully they can have some good discussion about it and come to a compromise,” said Bruce McPhee, Peace River Pickler’s director.

Neighbors and pickleball players both told us they feel the committee is a good start to reaching a happy medium.
“I think they could solve problems if they get everybody together and talk about each other’s needs and concerns,” added Ken North, who lives across the street from the park.
Applications are now open to Punta Gorda citizens. All the committee’s meetings will be open to the public.
