EAGLE — Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the country and the Treasure Valley is no exception. This spring Boise will break ground on the Hobble Creek Pickleball Complex this spring that will bring 12 courts specifically designed for pickleball.

Last summer the Eagle Tennis Club opened up their facility to give pickleball enthusiasts a place to play, the people we talked to shared their gratitude to the Eagle Tennis Club for giving them a designated time to play on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Pickleball originated in the 1960’s, it is a mix of tennis, badminton and table tennis, however, because the courts are smaller that allows people off all ages to have fun playing pickleball.

“It’s like playing ping pong, but standing on the table that sort of describes it,” said Dylan Lammers the director of the Heart of the Treasure Valley Pickleball tournament that Eagle Tennis Club will host the weekend of February 15-17. “Last year we could only get one hundred players and this year we had to close it down at two hundred, wo we have seen huge growth here in the valley.”Pickleball is a fast paced game and a great way to get exercise, it’s a social game and it can be enjoyed by families, The tournament will feature father-son as well as mother-son teams.

“My sons are in the twenties and we brought them here to the Eagle Tennis Club over Christmas and they are hooked,” said Julie Cramer. “It’s really fun and yeah it is all ages.”
