Mike Welter, a nationally ranked pickleball player from Cape Coral, was named a 2017 Florida Senior Games Athlete of the Year. But, he will be unable to compete in the 2018 Florida Senior Games, after suffering a stroke in late September. The stroke affected the left side of his body and immediately following the incident, he was paralyzed in his left arm and leg and lost his sight. “I’m going to take a year off from pickleball, but I’m going to be Comeback Player of the Year when I return.” Read the full story.
