Pickleball tourney draws top players – Klamath Basin, Oregon

There were close games, some ties in the medal rounds and lots of hoots and hollers at secondnd Annual Klamath Basin Pickleball Association Spring Paddle Battle pickleball tournament at Harbor Isles Tennis Club this weekend.

About 80 players showed up from across Southern Oregon to compete in a full men’s and women’s round-robin tournament Saturday.

The tournament continues today is mixed doubles starting at 10 a.m., where 54 are slated to compete.

Michael Perry of Klamath Falls said the games were tough, but the tournament was well run. He was playing with his brother, Jim, while family members looked on.

The tournament is organized by the KBPA and run by the Pickleball is Great group out of Beaverton.

Mike Hoxie, operator of Pickleball is Great, said the Klamath group put on a top-notch tournament.

“I’ve been doing this about three years and this is one of the most hospitable clubs,” Hoxie said. Hoxie has competed in tournaments for about eight years.

The event is partly a fundraiser for six professional pickleball courts slated to break ground at Steen Sports Park this spring.
