TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Pickleball is a hot new sport taking over the Tampa Bay area with club leagues popping up around town.
According to the USA Pickleball Association (USAPA), Pickleball has had a 650 percent increase in numbers over the last six years, making the fastest growing sport in America.
And one of the best parts, anyone of any age can play.
Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis dating back to the 1960s.
Two or four players use solid paddles to hit a perforated polymer ball, similar to a Wiffle Ball, over a net.
In Tampa Bay, Pickleball is wildly popular at many YMCA locations. You can join the Pickleball league for free with a gym membership.
