As the Volusia ECHO program faces an uncertain future, Holly Hill has already invested $1 million in funds toward a massive pickleball arena across from City Hall.



Giuffrida Park is the oldest neighborhood park in Cape Coral, as well as one of the smallest. So, when the city announced plans to install pickleball courts in the park as part of the city’s $60 million voter-approved parks Master Plan, some neighbors in the area cried foul.



Gerri Jamieson said she moved to the Villages to play pickleball — something she can take advantage of even in the coldest months of the year.



In a roundabout way, pickleball is similar to table tennis.

“It is very easy to play,” said Seminole Recreation Leader Kacy Little. “For anybody who has played racquet sports before, even pingpong. I personally describe it as full-sized pingpong. The racquet you use, the ball you are using, the layout of the court.”

Despite liability concerns, the Punta Gorda City Council agreed to a partnership between the city and PicklePlex at Florida Southwestern State College for future phase two development of the pickleball complex.
